Following The Waterboys euphoric, landmark performance at the iconic Glastonbury Festival last month and the release of their acclaimed new album All Souls Hill, the band have released the video for their new single ‘Blackberry Girl’. Directed and filmed by Mike Scott and edited by Duende Visions, the kaleidoscopic video features background footage from Tokyo’s fashionable Takashita Street. “‘Blackberry Girl’ is a kind of inflation of the characteristics of the great women I’ve known. It’s kind of an idealised woman, the kind of woman I’d like to take charge of me,” Mike said of the video. “In fact… I just wish women ruled the world. I wish they’d relieve men of their pathetic, imagined and derelict responsibilities and sort out the whole mess that we’ve made, it would be so great if they would.”
The song drops as the band continue their packed summer of Waterboys festival appearances and comes off the back of the release of their stunning new album All Souls Hill which has picked up some fantastic reviews inc:
“The ever prolific Mike Scott returns to peak creativity…a multi-faceted
and affecting album” – MOJO 4*
“Heroes and villains sustain Mike Scott’s enduring vision” – Uncut
