Doomsday Outlaw

Damaged Goods

I first discovered Doomsday Outlaw at the New Wave of Classic Rock festival and I cited them as my Saturday highlight saying of that performance ‘Doomsday Outlaw were absolutely magnificent’ and that the band are ‘Definitely ones to watch out for’.

Since that review I’ve interviewed bassist Indy, the band took part in the Stoakes Media Advent Calendar and they are today releasing their album ‘Damaged Goods’

Opening with the very song that attracted me to the band at the NWOCR festival, ‘In Too Deep’ has lashings of AC/DC by the bucketload! I love the guitar work across the whole album, but especially in this opening track! The lead guitar would make Angus sit up and listen, very ‘Thunderstruck’!

On My Way opens with a thump of a cowbell and instantly had me singing along to the catchy chorus. I’m two songs in and already this is my favourite album of the year. You just can’t help but get swept along!

Things slow down slightly for ‘If This is the End’, heartfelt lyrics and yet another stadium ready, anthemic chorus. We’re into southern rock for the next track with a great opening riff. Phil’s vocals are great and I particularly like his performance on ‘Turn Me Loose’.

The much heavier ‘You Make it Easy’ follows; a crushing guitar riff and heavier vocal, this feels a little like Audioslave. Possibly the most epic track on the album. In stark contrast, ‘Runaway’ is another singalong. I love the vocal melody, it gets inside you and you find yourself singing along. This would be a perfect summer festival song!

The album continues, the foot stomping, headbanging ‘My Woman Comes on Strong’ followed by ‘There is Nowhere Left to hide’ and then possibly, the catchiest song that I’ve heard in a long time. ‘One More Sip’ should be a number one! How can such a miserable song have such a happy feeling? I don’t know, but, ‘One More Sip’ manages it. This song has mainstream appeal, great guitar work and I’ll drink to those vocals! Cracking song.

Another singalong in the form of ‘It Never Gets Old’ with great harmonies too. Another stadium ready anthem. ‘Walking the Line’ follows and then album closer ‘The Little Things’ is a glorious finale!

The track makes a subtle nod to the opening track and talking of stadium anthems, well you know that point in the show that the artist instructs the crowd to shine their lights, (it used to be get your lighters out) well this song is THAT song! I love it, great vocals and I love the harmonies again in this one snd the guitar solo was just a dream!

I saw Dirty Honey the other week and they are being branded one of the hottest and best bands on the scene at the moment and I think Doomsday Outlaw are on the same level. Live, they’re astonishing, the album, well, quite simply, I love it. It’s out today, if you buy one album this year make it Doomsday Outlaws ‘Damaged Goods’.
