Inglorious

We Will Ride

So far, 2021 hasn’t offered much for us to look forward to. Especially in the music world. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Inglorious are releasing their fourth album, ‘We Will Ride’ and what an absolute belter! Recorded in Cardiff mid – Covid last year, the album see’s original Inglorious members, vocalist Nathan James and drummer Phil Beaver joined by new members, guitarists Danny Dela Cruz and Dan Stevens and bassist Vinnie Colla.

Opening with ‘She Won’t Let You Go’, it begins with a distant crunchy guitar but almost instantly, the riff repeats and it its you square in the face. Instantly, you know this is going to be a good album. The crunchy guitar doesn’t let up for a minute, forcing you to just go with it. Half way through the first song, you realise you are all out rocking along with the track. I love it, high energy rock and roll, just what we need right now.

‘Messiah’ is up next, Nathan James really shows off his impressive vocal range in this one, the song verses are quite low whereas the chorus is right up there, you feel he can just keep on climbing. What a great vocal range.

The next track ‘Medusa’ has tinges of southern rock and I straight away fell in love with it. From the punching rhythm section, to that southern slide guitar, it really is a glorious song. I really like what Phil is doing on the kit, he is an exceptional drummer, but the extra fills in this one are really quite special. This song will be one to see live!

‘Eye of the Storm’ starts rather quiet and subdued. Opening with the line “feel I’m getting older…” and with a flanger effect on the guitar, you start to think this is the ballad on the album, but not quite! About a minute in, the drums kick in and the crunchy guitar is back and the chorus pulls out all the stops and we are back up to eleven. But then after the chorus, it calms down once more, teasing you and it does this throughout which is a nice change after the full on assault of the first three tracks. The change in dynamics really add something to the song and in fact the album.

The album continues to thunder through! Another stand out track is ‘My Misery’, opening with a cool piano riff, yes, you read that right, a piano riff! Nathan’s vocal delivery is great in this song. His high notes never fail to disappoint but again, like in ‘Messiah’, Nathan starts relatively low, once again proving he can well and truly deliver across multiple octaves. Again, just outstanding. I love the intro of ‘We Will Meet Again’ too, echoes of Muse’s Starlight are evident here. A real ‘fist in the air’ rock anthem, this is another one that will sound truly epic live.

The album closes with the title track and again, Phil’s drums just absolutely pop out of the mix. What an almighty man behind the kit. The song makes for a really grand finale to the album and another that I think in a live setting would be truly epic.

The entire album is a real tour de force. An all out, hard hitting rock spectacular. Inglorious are firing on all cylinders with this album and they are planning a spring tour this year. I for one can’t wait to see them live.
