Stoakes Song of the Week
Today is the second Saturday in December which means it is time for our second Christmas song of the week. Now then, here at Stoakes Media, as you know, we do things slightly different. I would like to introduce you to ‘The December People’.
The December People is a band made up from musicians who are all at the top of their game. Guitarist Gary Pihl’s ‘day job’ is that of guitarist in Boston, Drummer David Lauser has played with Sammy Hagar for the past 30 years, keys player David Medd plays with The Tubes, second guitarist Jack Foster is an internationally renowned solo artist.
But it was Robert Berry, on bass and vocals, who founded and developed the December People concept, that is to make some standard Holiday music hip and relevant for today’s listeners and to have a way to give back to each community. Robert is no musical shrinking violet either. He has worked with the who’s who of Prog rock and classic rock. Think Keith Emerson, Carl Palmer, Sammy Hagar and Ambrosia, just to name a few. He tours around the country as the bass player for the Greg Kihn Band, he has just finished touring the States with his 3.2 project and he records and performs with his friends Gary Pihl , Fitz, and David Lauser in Alliance.
So, The Night Before Christmas, in the style of Led Zep! What’s not to love right? This is one of my favourite December People creations. The band are absolute genius’, turning classic Christmas songs into rock classics. Van Halen, Deep Purple, The Who, Queen, they have all received the December People treatment. Add to that that the band feel its so important to give back to communities and regularly donate to food banks and charities. All in all, a great band that we need to have touring the UK next year!!
