Stoakes’ Song of the Week

Well, as festival season draws to close, I thought these guys were fantastic contenders for this week’s song of the week. I was handed their album after a rather epic festival weekend a few years ago. To say I was a tad rough is an understatement. Cloven Hoof rum may have had it’s part to play… But that my friends is a whole different story.

Anyway, I’m walking out of this festival, everything is blurry, and I had a CD shoved in my hand; ‘give these a whirl on the way home…’ and so, in the car, I put the CD in the CD player and let me tell you: By the end of the album, I had done my fair share of singing along, I was feeling as right as rain. Now, on an equally blurry Saturday after seeing the Foo Fighters at Leeds Festival last night, this is the perfect antidote.

I’m talking about ‘Thirteen Stars’ and this song, which is actually one of my personal favourites of theirs, ‘Tired of Waiting’ from the 2015 album ‘White Raven’. I love the opening AC/DCesque riff. A guaranteed hangover cure!

Thirteen Stars are a band that hail from the west coast…. of Cumbria.
Andy, Steve, Jax and Hoss make up the band and they have played all over Europe.

The critical acclaim of the album coupled with with their live prowess has seen them tour as support for the Quireboys across the UK and into Europe and bag a full UK support slot with those bluegrass boogie masters Hayseed Dixie. Thirteen Stars are chomping at the bit to cement their place as the champions of down right dirty blues boogie woogie music.

Thirteen Stars are downright dirty, downright dangerous and downright awesome and if you haven’t listened to them, well, now’s your chance and, you’re welcome!
