Stoakes’ Song of the Week
Well, continuing our ‘New Music’ theme, this weeks song of the week comes from a newly released, debut album. Now, this is exciting. I’d like to introduce you to… Matt Pearce & The Mutiny.
You may well recognise the name Matt Pearce, you may think it sounds familiar. Well, you wouldn’t be wrong. Matt Pearce is guitarist for the band Voodoo Six. This however is somewhat of a departure from the Voodoo Six style. This is down and dirty, groovy blues
“Gotta Get Home” is a tangle of Mick Taylor-style electric blues slides and, as such, this song links Matt Pearce and the Mutiny with the country-blues pioneers of the Delta. But when the ivories tinkle towards you, you’ll recognise this track as a grand ole’ Southern song of worship & delivery — you might even imagine it was performed by the Allman Brothers with a little help from Delaney, Bonnie and Friends. Maybe this is what it feels like when an angel drags a poor soul from the mouth of hell — just in the nick of time.
Matt Pearce was feeling disobedient as he sat down to work on his latest project. He wanted to move away from the harder rock sound of Voodoo Six and so, the Mutiny was born. He states the songs on the album have “written themselves”, with the melodies tracking him down. Quite an uncanny writing experience for Mr. Pearce
The album was mixed by his V6 bandmate Tony Newton [he produced IRON MAIDEN’s most recent live release, “The Book of Souls”] and it involves some accomplished guests including: Joe Lazarus: (drums) Jon Moody (keys) Kez Gunes (bass) and female vocalist Acantha Lang.
The resulting album is stunning and I really do hope we hear more from Matt Pearce and the Mutiny as it is a real treat to behold!
