Stoakes’ Song of the Week

Continuing our ‘New Music month’, this week we have a band who over the past 18 months have not only made waves, they have caused a tsunami on the rock scene. Included on the Planet Rock ‘Ones to Watch’ list and playing sessions on both BBC Introducing and whispering Bob Harris’ ‘Under the Apple Tree’ sessions, our song of the week this week is from Northampton based British rock band, Empyre

‘Only Way Out’ comes from the EP ‘Something Remains’, but this version is a truly haunting, stripped back acoustic version, with just piano, guitar and vocals. It is truly spine tingling to listen to and what a way to introduce someone to this fantastic, exciting rock band.

The band last month released their debut album ‘Self Aware’, but don’t think these guys haven’t taken a long time honing their craft. Henrik and Did got together some 10 years ago when Henrik Steenholdt answered an ad for a singer in a covers band, placed by guitarist Did Coles. Did had just graduated from Guitar X at London Music College and simply needed to make some money. Did instantly recognised however there was something special about Henrik’s voice, it wasn’t just another rock covers voice. And so, the seeds for Empyre had been planted!

Fast Forward to 2019, Empyre are one of the most exciting new rock bands. Their music is uplifting, dark, contagious, captivating. They have been described as game changers in the rock scene and I personally can not wait to see how far they go!
