FLEETWOOD MAC’S RUMOURS CELEBRATES IT’S 45TH ANNIVERSARY

The iconic album ‘Rumours’ by Fleetwood Mac is turning 45 today. The album is renowned as being one of the greatest and best-selling albums of all time. In 2021, Rumours was the 3rd best-selling vinyl album in the UK, third only to ABBA & Adele’s brand new records and the album has been streamed over SIX BILLION times.

Featuring Fleetwood Mac mainstay songs such as The Chain, Don’t Stop and Songbird, the album was written during turbulent times for the band. Numerous affairs within the band and ongoing drug problems all had a part to play in the creation of ‘Rumours’, the title alone is a hint as to what was going on. It’s certainly true that through strife and heartbreak comes great songs!

BBC2 are also running a series on Saturday night, kicking off at 8.30pm with ‘Christine McVie’s Songbird‘, followed by the full 1997 concert ‘The Dance‘ which starts at 10pm. The festivities draw to a close at 11.45pm with ‘Fleetwood Mac: Don’t Stop‘ – a documentary looking back over the band’s long career, from the early blues outfit led by Peter Green in the late 1960s, to their reincarnation in the 1970s with the line-up that went on to record the 40-million-selling album Rumours
