FRIENDLY FIRES JOIN WHEELS AND FINS FESTIVAL AS SUNDAY NIGHT HEADLINERS

Kent’s boutique, beachside festival, Wheels and Fins has announced indie outfit, Friendly Fires to headline its Lighthouse Main Stage on Sunday 8th September. The two-day festival, also taking place on Saturday 7th September, at Joss Bay Beach in Broadstairs (near Margate), has also added to the bill, Mystery Jets, The Social Singing Choir, Frazer and Killing Giants, whilst revealed for the VIP area are BBC Radio 1 DJ’s, Gemma Cairney and Jack Saunders. Even more entertainment has been unveiled, including a Silent Disco where festival goers can switch between channels of pure rock music to bumping house grooves, dare devil Extreme Bike Battles, and not-for-the-faint-hearted, the Mad Drop Air Bag challenge. Wheels and Fins is much sought after for its quality mix of music, action sports and beach culture. Weekend and day tickets are now on sale priced from £70 and £40 respectively and are available from www.wheelsandfins.co.uk.

Now in its seventh year, Wheels and Fins is a hidden gem of a festival, with stunning views out to sea and just 90-minutes from central London. The lineup already announced for 2019 includes punk duo Slaves, drum ‘n’ bass legends S.P.Y, Kings Of The Rollers, Logistics and DJ Zinc, house and tech stars Noisia, Redlight and Barely Legal, and much more. Across the site and on the beach, a plethora of high octane and chilled out activities are on offer. From sup sessions, surfing, beach volleyball and yoga, to pro-skate comps, axe throwing and now, Extreme Bike Battles, and the Mad Drop Air Bag where guests can experience the life of a stuntman, hurling themselves from a great height onto a huge air bag as others look on in awe!

The highlight of this latest announcement comes in the form of Sunday night headliners, Friendly Fires. Excitement builds around the St Albans band who recently announced the arrival of new their album ‘Inflorescent’ landing this August.  Hype surrounds this release – their first full-length in over eight years – and after a string of standout appearances at festivals, Glastonbury and Citadel, it’s clear to see why. From material old and new, from Skeleton Boy to Heaven Let Me In, this will be a spectacular closing to Wheels and Fins 2019.

Other key music additions include Mystery Jets who’ll deliver a set of delightfully skewed psychedelia and playful wonky pop with proggy undertones – like only they know how – as was evident in recent album, Curve Of The Earth. Also comes The Social Singing Choir with their fresh take on reworking contemporary pop hits, in choir format. Their choir remix album for Moshi Moshi Records featured the labels’ hits from the past 20 years, including Florence & the Machine and Friendly Fires – keep an ear out for when they perform at Wheels and Fins. Alternative rockers Frazer return to Wheels and Fins after a tumultuous response in 2018, and anthemic, rock four-piece, Killing Giants will take to the stage proving why their Margate’s One’s To Watch band of 2019.

Wheels and Fins Festival is also thrilled to announce plans for The Cove. Built from 14 shipping containers and featuring a purpose-built wooden stage with adjacent DJ booths, The Cove is an area of exploration. It will be home to acoustic and live music, DJs spinning blissed out housed sets, and The Silent Disco. The juxtaposition of party goers dancing as they switch channels on their headphones between the Totally Wired rock channel and house vibes over on the Canterbury Vibes frequency, will give onlookers a sight worth seeing!

Alongside the attractive programme at Wheels and Find, revellers will find some well stocked bars catering for all favourite tipples. Just announced is Heineken Super Bar, Lagunitas Motor Home Bar stocking craft ales, the Redbull Bar returning for its second year, the on-trend Chapledown Gin Bar, Rum Shack and the Jägermeister Bar built in a caravan!

Wheels and Fins boasts a stunning location that few other UK festivals can. Around 10,000 revellers are expected to make the trip to Joss Bay for an unforgettable weekend to sunbathe, camp and dance by the sea.

Adult day tickets start from £40, weekend tickets from £75, or a VIP experience with access to the VIP area, private bar and luxury toilets costs from £80 for the day, or £150 for the weekend. Add an extra £20 to any ticket and camp or invest in a glamping ticket and dwell in a stylish bell tent or Moroccan yurt for the weekend, all with striking ocean views of Joss Bay. Children’s tickets are also available starting from £6 for the day or £12 for weekend. For full ticket options and information on payment plans, visit www.wheelsandfins.co.uk.
