MIKE ROSS RELEASES ACOUSTIC ALBUM, THE CLOVIS LIMIT, THE TENNESEE TRANSITION
Multi-facetted, multi-talented Mike Ross today releases his latest solo album: ‘The Clovis Limits The Tennessee Transition’. Composer, songwriter, performer and producer – Mike wears all these hats, and more, with talent, flair and panache. ‘The Tennessee Transition’ shows off that his range, passion and virtuosity and, by intention, brings the listener as close as possible to experiencing Mike Ross playing live and solo. Speaking of which, Mike has some great news regarding live gigs in the near future!
‘The Tennessee Transition’ follows confidently in the wake of Mike’s critically-acclaimed solo album: ‘The Clovis Limit Pt.2’: a 10-track, all-singing, all-rocking, multi-talented tour de force, made of 24-carat win. ‘The Tennessee Transition’ is a strong album in its own right, yet stands as a companion to Mike’s acclaimed ‘Clovis Limits’album duology.
It’s also a pilgrimage, which explores the rich tapestry of Southern musical traditions and styles that have inspired Mike Ross throughout his own musical journey, featuring original and classic material.
Check out the single ‘Driftwood’ below:
“At the heart of pretty much every song I’ve ever written,” Mike admits, “you’ll find a guy with an acoustic guitar simply playing and singing his heart out. He’ll most likely sitting be on his own in the corner of a shady room, lost in his own thoughts and trying to channel the spirits of the greats – from Charlie Patton to Robert Johnson, Hank Williams to Gram Parsons.
“Why a ‘Tennessee Transition’?” he muses, “I wanted to pay homage to the fertile soil of that southern US state as it is the birthplace of so much of the music that I dearly love. I wanted to re-present some of the Clovis songs in their rawest, most stripped back form so that’s exactly what I did and I’m not sure I’ve ever put a more authentic representation of myself out on record. If you’ve ever seen me play a solo set (or if you’ve always wanted to) then This album is as close as you’re going to get to the real thing without making a show”
For Blues in Britain, “’The Tennessee Transition’ perfectly captures the intensity and intimacy of Mike’s solo shows, the power and emotion of bare-boned song holding player and listener rapt.”
Music News, meanwhile, found that “The album is a treat. Ross playing and singing with joy and without the constraints of a band and very well worthy of The Clovis Limit(s) or on its own.”
Check out Mike’s return to touring AND ‘The Clovis Limits The Tennessee Transition’ for its own, freestanding excellence and musical impact, for its fabulous slide guitar work; and as an insight into the rich musical tapestry that have inspired and fired this highly-creative, genre-crossing musical talent for many a decade.
