D-A-D

A Prayer for the Loud

After an eight year gap, D-A-D release their next album, ‘A Prayer For The Loud’. This is album number twelve for these Danish rockers, but if like me, you are unfamiliar with their back catalogue, this is as good a place to start as any, believe me!

D-A-D is made up of vocalist and guitarist Jesper Binzer. Sharing vocal duties with Jesper is bassist Stig Pedersen. On lead guitar is Jesper’s younger brother Jacob Binzer and completing the line up is drummer Laust Sonne

The album opens with ‘Burning Stars’. Beginning with a real hard hitting drum introduction, this song is what I imagine AC/DC would sound like now, if Bon Scott were still alive. Jesper has a great voice and what a guitarists his brother is.

The title track of the album comes next, this is a blues rock masterpiece, it has a chugging riff and again, a stunning vocal delivery. I love the key change in the chorus, it gives the song a slightly mysterious feel.

The album continues, it is full of all out, riff heavy, no messin’ rock n roll. ‘Nothing Ever Changes’ has a brilliant anthemic chorus. This is a great sing along song and I’m sure will be a high point of any future D-A-D shows.

My favourite track however is the final song on the album, ‘Happy Days in Hell’. Yet again this is another rock anthem with another really catchy chorus. I particularly enjoyed the lyrics of this one. The song begins ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you interesting’! Never a truer word was spoken. Add the genius lyrics to great harmonies and the signature guitar mastery of the Binzer brothers, the result is by far the best song of the album.

That being said, every song is an all out powerhouse of rock and roll. The album feels simple, it is stripped bare; there are no fancy guitar pedals or effects. It is the four guys, in a studio delivering a massive dose of classic rock. D-A-D have only played the UK a handful of times and they are currently on a huge European tour. They will visit the UK for four dates, Manchester Acadamy and London this coming November and The Tivoli, Buckley and HRH in March 2020. On strength of this album, I personally have to see these live, I imagine the live show will be something to behold and I urge you to do the same!
